We’re finally in the swing of summer and I’m more than ready to be jetting off on my travels with a few more trips planned already! I had a great reading month in June with some incredible reads including the final Thrills and Chills readalong and some brilliant book tours. Here’s everything I read (and finished) in June.
- The Surfacing – Claire Ackroyd
- Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop – Hwang Bo-Reum
- His First Wife – Sue Watson
- Hits Different – Tasha Ghouri and Lizzie Huxley Jones
- The Listeners – Maggie Stiefvater
- Great Big Beautiful Life – Emily Henry (Audiobook)
- Bookish Thoughts
The Surfacing – Claire Ackroyd
This was another thriller readalong with the brilliant Tandem Collective but I had slightly mixed reviews about the culprit and the way it was revealed at the end? I won’t include any spoilers here but let me know if you want to talk about this one because I have thoughts!
Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop – Hwang Bo-Reum
I absolutely love the cosy bookish vibes of this book and the journeys each of the characters go through during the story. I’ll be honest any read that is to do with book shops and reading I will sign up to but this book was such a beautiful, cuddly read, it was perfect! If you’re looking to dive into translated fiction, this is a perfect place to start.
His First Wife – Sue Watson
This was *sob* the final read of the Thrills and Chills Readers showcase with Tandem Collective and I LOVED the sun-soaked sinister setting. If you’ve read and loved Rebecca, this has similar vibes and the scenery and tense action made it a great read. Whilst I was a bit baffled by the MC’s choices to blindly ignore many, many red flaming flags, it was still a brilliant thriller read.
Hits Different – Tasha Ghouri and Lizzie Huxley Jones
I picked this book up in anticipation of the upcoming Love Stories Etc Festival in Manchester (let me know if you’re attending!) as Lizzie Huxley Jones is one of the featuring authors. It was a perfect, light-hearted read I enjoyed in the sunshine and I loved the representation of the deaf MC, I learned so many things I hadn’t even thought of before!
The Listeners – Maggie Stiefvater
If you’re a fan of Amor Towles’ writing, such as A Gentleman in Moscow, this is the book for you. I loved the slower, gentler writing style with a blend of historic fiction and magical realism.
Great Big Beautiful Life – Emily Henry (Audiobook)
If you’ve been following along with my Bookstagram, you’ll know I love an Em Hen read! I loved listening to this as an audiobook this month but couldn’t shake the déjà vu for Drop Dead by Lily Chu, anyone else listened to this one on Audible?
Two investigators/writers appear at the same old lady’s house as she slowly reveals secrets to them about her infamous life and love, slowly falling in love and plenty of big reveals from the elderly subject’s side in the end? Please let me know this is not just me!
I absolutely adored the book and every page (or read aloud page) of it and completely recommend it to anyone and everyone! All the feels and a beautiful setting.
Bookish Thoughts
What books did you love reading in June? What books are you hoping to pick up in the month ahead or have already picked up? Have you read any of my June reads? I would love to catch up about them!
